BALENCIAGA: CRUISE 2014
I am loving Balenciaga. I want to say that this reminds me of Maude, but Maude didn’t really do black and conceptual. She was more eccentric kook, with a crown of plaits, who made a hobby out of attending random funerals. For some reason though I can see her in this. There’s kook in this Balnciaga. Maybe it’s the hats. Or the black, which really is a very funeral appropriate shade. Either way, the whole thing says to me eccentric rich lady, slightly older, who lives in a giant house filled with conceptual art, big sculptures that fill up rooms, things by Richard Tuttle, who likes her clothes to be equally conceptual but easy at the same time. Which is why she only wears black and white. I can see doing her gardening in this. The hat is very god for shading her head from the sun. It sort of shimmies as she moves, bends over to pull a weed, which is always a good thing. She doesn’t do task appropriate clothes. She would get a gardener to do her gardening for her but it seems such a shame to waste good Balenciaga on the help.
